Start with the specification, not thickness
To compare two mats, record length, width, thickness, material and cleaning method. A measurement in millimetres describes a dimension; it does not independently measure grip, comfort or stability. Available space and the ability to store the mat dry also matter.
This guide explains specifications. It does not prescribe exercises or determine a suitable surface for an injury. SportLoop has not conducted grip or wear tests.

Match materials and formats correctly
As a documentary example, Manduka identifies PROlite as closed-cell PVC and specifies 4.7 mm. The Standard format on the consulted page measures 180 × 61 cm. The eKO family uses natural rubber and has separate care instructions. These are model-specific facts, not evidence that one material is better.
Do not combine Standard, Long, grommet versions or Almost Perfect units in one comparison. Record the complete variant before comparing dimensions. Nor should one brand’s instructions be extended to every PVC mat.

| Feature | Record | Do not infer |
|---|---|---|
| Dimensions | Length × width and thickness | Thicker does not establish better quality |
| Material | Surface, core and variant | Material name does not prove grip |
| Care | Specified cleaner, drying and storage | Cleaning is not disinfection |

Care can differ by material
Manduka separates PRO and eKO care; for eKO it advises against soap and excessive sunlight. This is a reason to read the exact instructions before applying a household recipe. Being able to clean a surface is not a disinfection claim.
Before storing, check that the specified method lets both sides dry and that you have room to do so. A mat that folds for travel is not necessarily intended to remain folded in storage.

Checks before choosing
Look for the surface material and, where declared, the core; check whether care differs between layers. Confirm unfolded dimensions and transport format. For a specific latex requirement, use the model’s declaration rather than its generic material name.
For a home training space, also consult the resistance-band and dumbbell guides. A mat is not automatically suitable floor protection for dropped weights: the manufacturer must expressly allow that use. We do not display a mat offer while its commercial identity remains unresolved.

Methodology
Prepared with Codex assistance. Automated checks do not replace the owner’s editorial approval or any required specialist review.
- Documentary analysis of the linked sources. We have not physically tested these products or measured their performance.
Limitations
- The instructions for the specific model take precedence. Comparisons are reading criteria, not guarantees of safety, lifespan or performance.
